Driving Back to Paris

Sunday, November 3, 1991

Drove back to Paris.  Again, along back roads.  We visited an old, old cathedral and abbey in the town of Verneuil Sur Aire, France, arriving home about 4PM.  We attended the Living Word Church in Le Pecq that evening but decided it wasn’t the church for us.

Trails in the Forest of St. Germain

Sunday, October 27, 1991

David drove to Church for a second time.  More cars on the road now but David did good.  In the afternoon we walked the tails in the Forest of St. Germain in the midst of beautiful trees turning to their fall shades.

Old Church, Mary Madeleine, French Service

Monday and Tuesday, October 22, 1991

David’s off to his meetings and I visit the old church Mary Madeleine, attending the French service, and lighting yet another candle for my father in one of the many churches around the world.  I also toured Cathedral Saint Michael, the national church of Belgium, and then proceeded to lose [sic] myself at the “Grand Place” and the many shops.

Arrival in Brussels

Sunday, October 20, 1991

The rain stopped long enough for us to cook breakfast and put up our wet tent.  We found no English speaking Churches in Mons, so we studied the Prophet John in our Bible.  We arrived in Brussels, studied numerous corner street maps, and found our hotel – The Royal Windsor Hotel.

In the afternoon we visited the “Grand Place”, beautiful old buildings, truly a grand looking place, stopping as we went at numerous lace and chocolate shops.  Oh! the calories.  we also visited the famous statue “Mannekin Pis”.  Yes, a little boy doing his thing.  we took the Metro to “Rick’s Place” – excellent ribs and American cuisine.

English Speaking, Scottish Presbyterian Church

Sunday, October 13, 1991

We attended an English speaking, Scottish Presbyterian Church which was very quaint and David dashed off to show.

Monday, October 14, 1991

Repacking and closing down the booth at the show.  I’m determined to bring home a fichus tree and another plant David’s booth purchased for the show.  We don’t know if it’s legal across the border or not.

A Fall Day in Paris

What a beautiful, cool, sunny Fall day!  After a beautiful Church service we and other members of the Young Couples Group from the Church ventured South of Paris to visit the Chateau Vaux-Le-Vicompte – a beautiful chateau.

We had a lovely picnic on the chateau grounds.

English Breakfast

After a lovely English breakfast, David proceeded to his Saturday meeting (on the golf course) and I took the Underground to London City Centre to check the location of the American Church and visit shops along the way.

Sunday, September 15

Church was great. The organist gave us a fine display of how the pipe organ can sound.

Monday, September 16

I attended a more formal coffee with Iris, Soneda and Denise with the Amercan Women’s Group of Paris – a fine organization but too expensive to join.

Tuesday, September 17

I attended a more centrally oriented coffee with the ladies of the church residing in and around my area of town. Very convenient to me – only 1 train stop away

Wednesday, September 18

David left at 5:30am for a day trip to Milano, Italy and returned home at midnight.

Thursday, September 19

I attended Bible Study Fellowship and began studying Israel and the Minor Prophets. It’s a new venture for me but one I feel will be spiritually rewarding.

Church by Car in Paris

Our first trip by car to church – downtown Paris. David even survived the circle around the Arch de Triomphe. We’ve been told if you succeed in this roundabout, you’re capable of driving anywhere in Paris. It has many roads joining from all sides and you yield to those entering. Back to our favorite store, IKEA, in the afternoon to pick up our back-ordered hassock stands.

Now we must rearrange the living room – a bright idea I thought of last night about midnight as we’re eating chocolate covered cookies and enjoying the company of our neighbors. It looks great – but now we need 1 small corner table and a coffee table. We hope that’s it.

Picnic at Invalides Esplandade

What a day! After Church we joined the Church group for a picnic at Invalides Esplanade. What a beautiful day. Both of us were able to get a good bit of sun on our much needed white bodies. After a great lunch and numerous games, we ventured across the river to watch the coming home of the “Tour de France” (famous bicycle race) with thousands of people.

We did manage a good view standing on our camping chairs and before we knew it, David had taken 16 pictures. We saw Greg Lemond (the American rider) who finished 7th. overall, and all the others going down the road to the Arch de Triomphe and circling back.

Editor’s Notes:

I picked out four of the photos that were taken that day and included them below. Captions for each are below each image.
