Labor Day in the USA

(Labor Day in USA, but not here) - Jet lad had set in for me. I tried to go to sleep about 10pm last night but since I was still on Dallas time and wishing I was watching the Dallas Cowboys (3pm in Dallas), I was wide awake until 5am my time. (my payment for taking the Sunday afternoon nap.)

David took a 7:30am flight to Spain and I finally slept a few hours. He returned Monday evening from a good meeting and really tired and ready to stop flying for a while.

Editor’s Notes

When Deborah and I went over to visit them the first time in Paris Georgia forced Deborah to stay up all day by taking us to the Eiffel Tower and various other tourist attractions so we wouldn’t fall asleep. I think Deborah by dinner time was about ready to kill her because all she wanted to do was sleep.

Arriving at Charles De Gaulle Airport

We arrived Charles De Gaulle airport about 9AM local time. I was never even asked to open my carry-on of canned pickles, spaghetti sauce, mayonnaise, etc. The weather was rainy again and cool.

Upon arriving home very exhausted at 10AM Paris time (3AM Dallas time) we took a much needed nap (both of us knowing it to be the wrong thing to do). It’s unpacking time and David ventured to the office in preparation for his Monday AM trip to Spain.

Beautiful rain storms today.

David flew to Madrid, Spain. This was one of those quick trips so I didn’t go. Still raining today but I have the urge to roam the streets - there must be a bargain somewhere.

Market day. I’m getting good at this. One of the ladies who has vegetables there recognizes me from the first time and proceeds to speak a little English for me. There are lots of vegetable, meat, fish, etc. booths and you just sort of pick one you like.

As I was glancing over the pork area at one booth, a kind gentlemen began to speak in French. When he realized I didn’t understand him, he apologized for not speaking English. He was very jovial and with sign language and a few mixed words, I managed to buy protraine fumee (bacon) and jambon (ham).

Other stores along the streets seem to post more specials on market days and I even manage to buy a few Christmas gifts at prices I could almost afford.

Iberia and British Airways to Madrid

It’s early up today. 6:30am bus to the airport. Upon arrival at the airport our Iberia flight to Madrid, Spain was canceled. So we stand in line with hundreds of others for the next British Airways flight to Madrid.

Arrived late afternoon in Madrid. It’s hot here - 100 degrees +. Pool atop the Holiday Inn. I sunbathed with the topless ladies. It’s really different to go from “Bonjour” and “Merci” to “Buenos Dias” and “Gracias”. Loved the weather.

Our dinner was lobster at a nice restaurant where we watched them serve fish they had prepared - baked in salt.

Editor’s Notes

I still haven’t actually determined why they took this trip but my guess is it was a business trip that David was on when Georgia was able to go with him, as she did often.

These two photos were taken from the roof top pool of the Holiday Inn, in Madrid Spain. No, she did not take any photos of the other ladies she was sunbathing with, sorry.
